WhatsApp: Blue hooks - what does that mean?
Blue hooks on WhatsApp have been causing confusion for days. In this practical tip, we explain exactly what these check marks mean.
WhatsApp: Deactivate blue ticks
Blue ticks on WhatsApp: message was read
- You will see blue ticks on WhatsApp when one of your contacts has not only received a message but has actually read it. This applies to Android since the update to version 2.11.426 and to iOS since version 2.11.12 - also for voice messages and sent files such as pictures.
- The function can now be deactivated on Android. For this you need version 2.11.444 of WhatsApp, which you can download from CHIP Online for free. To deactivate the blue ticks, open the menu item "Account" in the settings and tap on "Data protection".
- Then remove the checkmark at "Read receipts". Please note, however, that your read receipts will then no longer be displayed, but you will also no longer see any blue ticks on your contacts.
- With a few tricks, the function can also be bypassed on iOS. The function will soon be officially available in WhatsApp for Android and iOS.
- Note: You cannot switch off the blue ticks for group chats.
If you want even more functions for WhatsApp, you can use the tuned version "WhatsApp Plus".
