Format WhatsApp chat: text in italics, bold or strikethrough - how it works
No more boring chats in WhatsApp. This is how you format your text and can write in italics, bold and strikethrough.
Bold, italic and strikethrough in WhatsApp on iOS
With all versions of WhatsApp, iOS users have the option to format text in bold, italics or strikethrough.
- Mark the word or passage you want to select by tapping on the appropriate place.
- If you want to select several words, you can define the area with the lines on the left and right.
- You can then tap "Select" in the context menu. You can then navigate right in the menu until you see "BIU".
- If you tap "BIU", you can choose between different text formats below. You can choose between "bold", italics ", " strikethrough "and" monospace ".
Format words on Android
Texts and passages can also be formatted under Android.
- Select the passage you want to format. This works by tapping the corresponding word twice.
- You can use the small arrows on the edges to set how many words you want to format.
- The menu opens. Now you have to select the three points on the far right and you can open the various options.
Italic, bold or strikethrough without menu
Alternatively, you can format the text with characters.
- Type * text * to bold.
- Use _text_ to format italic.
- Cross out with ~ text ~.
- Monospace also works with characters, but this is a bit more complicated: You have to put the text between three grave characters, i.e. `` text ''. The grave sign is hidden under the apostrophe: tap and hold the apostrophe sign, you will find the grave sign in the context menu on the far left.
