WhatsApp: delete chat and chat history
In WhatsApp you can delete parts of a chat as well as the entire chat history. The function of removing individual messages is a little hidden. We show how to do it.
WhatsApp: delete individual chats
- Switch to the chat overview. The procedure then differs slightly between iOS and Android.
- On iOS, tap "Edit" in the top left corner and then select a chat you want to delete.
- On an Android smartphone, just hold your finger on the chat. Then select "Delete chat" in the menu.
- With WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp for PC or Mac, move the mouse over the desired chat on the left and click on the arrow in the top right corner. Then select "Delete chat".
WhatsApp: delete entire chat history
- In iOS, go to "Settings" in the lower left corner. In Android you will find the settings in the top right of the menu.
- If you select the "Chats" category, you will find several options.
- Here, tap on "Empty all chats" and confirm the process.
- Tip: If you only want to hide the chats and not delete them permanently, select the "Archive all chats" option.
WhatsApp: delete individual messages
- If you only want to delete individual messages, this is also possible. To do this, search and open the desired chat.
- Hold your finger on the message and tap the trash can at the top (Android) or select the "Delete" option (iOS).
- WhatsApp on the PC: Move the mouse over the message and click on the small arrow. Then select "Delete Message".
