WhatsApp: Get insight into stored data - how it works
- Due to a new EU regulation, users of digital services have the right to request the stored personal data. In this case, it is not WhatsApp but the parent company Facebook that pulls out the data.
- Via the "Settings" you can access the "Request account info" function under "Account". If you tap "Request report" here, the data profile will be created.
- According to Facebook, it can take up to 20 days for your profile to be compiled. When the process has been completed, you will be informed at WhatsApp and will receive a download link. The download is active for 30 days, after which it is deleted.
When does the new WhatsApp function come?
- The new EU regulation will come into force on May 25th. The function for viewing the stored data is therefore expected in the app by this date at the latest.
- Previously, only companies that had their headquarters within the EU were required to disclose the data. The new regulation applies to all companies worldwide.
- A corresponding function has been available at the parent company Facebook for years. With just a few clicks, you can download your Facebook data and see what Facebook knows about you.
