WhatsApp: change mobile phone - so you keep all data
If you change your cell phone, you can keep your WhatsApp data with a little work. We'll show you how to move between iPhone and Android smartphones.
Variant 1: Keep WhatsApp data when changing mobile phones
Do not change the operating system, but continue to use an iPhone or an Android smartphone, taking your data with you is a breeze. Only a change between the systems requires a little more effort.
- Open WhatsApp on your old device and select "Settings" in the bottom left (iOS) or top right in the menu (Android). In the "Chats" category you will find the "Chat backup".
- Here you can create a backup with the desired content in the desired way. Then set up your new phone, after registration in WhatsApp you will be asked if you want to restore the backup.
Variant 2: WhatsApp change from Android to iOS
- First, activate USB debugging on your Android smartphone.
- Download the free tool "Android WhatsApp to iPhone Transfer" and install it.
- Connect both your iPhone and Android smartphone to the PC using a USB cable.
- Now confirm USB debugging on the Android smartphone and start the installed tool.
- Click on "File" in the top left corner and find all the chat histories you want to transfer.
- At the top click on the second button from the right, the "Android-to-iPhone" button.
- When the process is complete, you can start WhatsApp on the iPhone. The backup is now imported.
Variant 3: WhatsApp change from iOS to Android
- Connect your iPhone to the PC with a USB cable and start iTunes.
- Select your iPhone there and create a backup. Make sure that the "Encrypt backup" option is not activated.
- Download the "iPhone Backup Browser" for Windows or the "iPhone Backup Extractor for Mac".
- Start the tool and switch to the "Advanced" tab above. Activate the item "net.whatsapp.WhatsApp" here.
- Click the "browse" button and select a location, for example in a new folder on the desktop. The WhatsApp backup is saved there using the "extract selected files" button.
- Take the Android smartphone at hand and register with WhatsApp. Then download the "WhazzApp Migrator Lite" app.
- Connect the Android smartphone to the PC using a USB cable and copy the WhatsApp backup to the "WhatsApp \ Databases" folder on your smartphone.
- Start the app, tap on "Select iPhone Archive" and select the path "WhatsApp \ Databases". The backup is imported via the play button.
- Uninstall WhatsApp and download it again from the Play Store. A second registration is not necessary. You will now be asked whether you want to import the found backup.
