WhatsApp-Mail: Message could not be delivered - is this spam?
Many WhatsApp users are currently receiving emails with subject lines such as "Message from Max Fischer could not be delivered" - allegedly from WhatsApp. We'll tell you what this is about and whether it is dangerous spam.
WhatsApp mail: is this spam?
- WhatsApp's emails with the subject "Message could not be delivered" are spam.
- You should not click the links contained in the mail and under no circumstances should you open any attachments.
- The fake mails are used by fraudsters with the name of WhatsApp to spread malware and to redirect you to erotic sites with expensive subscription models.
- The said message, which was not delivered, does not really exist. If you click on the links or open the attachment, you run the risk of catching a virus.
- You should therefore delete the mail immediately and ignore it.
How do you recognize spam mails?
WhatsApp spam is not an isolated case. But don't worry: you can easily expose most spam mails. Pay attention to the following information:
- If you move the mouse over the sender, the actual sender address will be displayed. In the WhatsApp emails this is a dubious address with "preis.xyz" as the domain. If the email address does not sound like the official service, it is mostly spam.
- You can also take a closer look at the links by moving your mouse over them. If the links lead to unknown pages with unusual domains, it is mostly spam.
- The text in such spam emails often contains spelling mistakes and strange wording.
- The fraudsters also do not know your name. For this reason, no direct form of address is used in most spam mails.
- In another practical tip, we will show you how to protect yourself from fraudulent emails.
