There are several ways to save WhatsApp messages - from backup in the cloud to saving in a text file to a screenshot. We'll show you all three options step by step.
1. Save WhatsApp messages as backup
The easiest and most comprehensive option is regular backup. This saves all messages and can be easily restored:
- First open the "Settings" in WhatsApp using the menu button.
- Then select "Chats" and then "Chat Backup".
- Here you can now determine how often your messages should be saved as a backup.
2. Save WhatsApp messages as a text file
- Go to the chat you want to save messages from.
- Tap the menu button and then select "More".
- Now you need to tap "Send chat via email" and choose whether you want to save the pictures too.
- The messages are then saved in a text file and added to an email.
- You now have to send the email to yourself or the chat partner.
3. Save and read messages from WhatsApp in Google Drive
So that your WhatsApp messages are backed up regularly, we recommend that you back them up with Google Drive:
- In the WhatsApp app, open "Settings"> "Chats"> "Chat Backup" and swipe down to "Google Drive".
- Here you have to add a Google account and choose how often the backup should be created. Then WhatsApp automatically saves your messages.
- You can read the messages on the computer with WhatsApp Xtract and Elcomsoft Explorer from the backup.
- Alternatively, the messages are also loaded when you reinstall WhatsApp and add your Google account.
