WhatsApp: security notifications - what is it?
With an update WhatsApp has integrated the "security notifications" into its messenger. What is behind it is not apparent to most users. However, you should know the function, as it is part of secure end-to-end encryption.
Security notifications on WhatsApp: that's behind it
- So that every chat on WhatsApp is encrypted from one chat partner to another, everyone has a security number. You can find this by tapping on the contact in the chat and then on "Encryption" - provided encryption is active.
- The security number is unique and ensures that all messages are sent encrypted from end to end (end-to-end encryption).
- However, the security number can change - for example, if your chat partner uses a new smartphone or reinstalled WhatsApp.
- To be informed about the new security number, you can activate the so-called "security notifications" in the menu> "Account"> "Security".
- Note: As a rule, the chats are encrypted even if your chat partner reinstalled WhatsApp. However, you should still check the encryption as soon as you receive a security notification.
WhatsApp: check encryption
- Go to the chat in question and tap the contact's name or number.
- Here you will find the menu item "Encryption".
- If there is a locked lock behind it, the chat is secure. If not, tap the menu entry to find out the reason for the missing encryption.
In addition to encryption, the update also has other features: We'll tell you about the new, secret WhatsApp functions.
