So that you can always use the latest features and there are no security gaps, you should update WhatsApp regularly. We'll show you how it works on Android and iOS.
Android: update WhatsApp
If you always want to test the current and non-public beta, you have to install the appropriate WhatsApp APK. However, these test versions can still contain errors and security gaps. It is therefore advisable to update WhatsApp only via the Play Store:
- To do this, open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Then tap the three horizontal bars at the top left and select the "My apps and games" item in the menu.
- If a WhatsApp version is available, it appears in the "Updates" section. Tap on it and select "Refresh". The new version will then be downloaded and installed.
- Tip: If you activate the automatic app updates on Android, you no longer have to worry about WhatsApp. Your smartphone automatically installs all updates in the background.
iPhone and Co: Update WhatsApp
No beta versions of WhatsApp are available on iOS. The only way out is via the Apple App Store:
- Open the App Store on your iPhone, iPod or iPad.
- Switch to the "Updates" tab below.
- If a WhatsApp update is available, it will be displayed here. Then tap on the "Update" button to the right and wait until the new version has been downloaded.
- Tip: So that you don't have to constantly update WhatsApp manually, you can activate the automatic updates on iOS.
