WhatsApp vs. Hoccer - the messenger comparison
WhatsApp vs. Hoccer - another competitor to the popular messenger enters the market and challenges the Facebook service. Our detailed app comparison shows which messenger is actually better and whether Hoccer can be dangerous for the giant WhatsApp.
WhatsApp vs. Hoccer: The popular messenger at a glance
- Features: In the popular messenger WhatsApp, write privately to your friends. Group chats and so-called broadcasts, in which you can send a message to several users, are also possible. Photos, videos, voice messages, documents or locations can also be sent. A call function is also integrated.
- Encryption: Since 2016, all WhatsApp chats have been secured using end-to-end encryption. However, only if both contacts have installed the latest version of the messenger.
- Cost: WhatsApp is free for the first year after downloading. A small annual fee of currently 89 cents is then due.
- Distribution: WhatsApp counts as the most widespread messenger with about a billion users. Here the probability is very high that you will find the majority of your contacts.
- Conclusion: Extensive functions and widely used, these are the highlights of WhatsApp. In return, however, you have to accept questionable data protection problems.
- For download: WhatsApp for Android (free) / WhatsApp for iOS (free)
Hoccer vs. WhatsApp: Information about the German WhatsApp alternative
- Functions: In contrast to WhatsApp, you can get started with Hoccer directly after entering a user name - a telephone number or access to the phone book is not required. You can write in private chats or in chat rooms with other people. Of course, photos, videos, voice messages and locations can be sent. Sending large files is also quick and easy. To write with other users, you first have to invite them via their email address or add their username - the disadvantage if the app does not work with phone numbers.
- Encryption: At Hoccer too, all chats are encrypted using end-to-end technology. You can also secure the app with a password so that no one can access your chats.
- Costs: You can download and use Hoccer free of charge. Unlike WhatsApp (currently), there is no annual fee.
- Distribution: Unfortunately, the app is not really widespread in Germany, but this can change quickly due to the good functions. Another shortcoming: Since the contact search does not take place via telephone number, you have to ask each of your friends individually for their hoccer name.
- Conclusion: Even Stiftung Warentest praises the German messenger as "exemplary". The testers are particularly enthusiastic about data protection and the many functions. Unfortunately, Hoccer is not really common yet. Nevertheless, the free messenger is already a great and, above all, a safe alternative to WhatsApp. Test it out.
- For download: Hoccer (free of charge).
