WhatsApp: Activate two-factor authentication - how it works
WhatsApp has finally introduced a way to protect chat history even better: two-factor authentication. This practical tip shows you how to activate the additional security and why it makes your account more secure.
Enable two-factor authentication on WhatsApp for Android
Accounts have been encrypted twice for a long time. Now WhatsApp has finally introduced two-factor authentication on Android. It is no longer enough to verify a WhatsApp account via SMS, you now have the option of activating the new feature and thus preventing your account from being taken over:
- First, check that you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed.
- Then open the WhatsApp settings by tapping on the three dots in the top right corner of the app and selecting "Settings".
- In the settings, select "Account" and then "Verification in two steps". Click "Activate" to activate the feature.
- You will now be asked to enter a six-digit PIN twice. You should remember this PIN well.
- In the event of an emergency that you forget your PIN, you can also enter an email address in the next step. Although this represents a small security risk, it is definitely recommended. If you forget your PIN, you cannot otherwise verify the account.
- Confirm your entries by clicking "Done" and your WhatsApp account is protected by two-factor authentication.
