Twitter is known for its hashtags. But for outsiders, the terms with the rhombus are usually a book with seven seals. We clarify their meaning.
Hashtags on Twitter - function and implementation
Anyone who has ever seen a tweet, i.e. a message on Twitter, has most likely encountered a hashtag:
- Words with a pound (#) are marked in blue on Twitter and are used for key words. These should emphasize the word or the term and clarify what the tweet refers to.
- If you click on a hashtag, you will find more tweets from other users who have used the hashtag. In this way, information on a topic or new trends can be found quickly.
- A tweet consists of a maximum of 140 characters. You can put as many hashtags there as you like. You can put a hash in front of each word and thus form a hashtag from it.
- Example: Every year when Germany's Next Top Model is on TV, there are millions of tweets with "#GNTM" on Twitter. The users thus write their opinion on the program for everyone to see and share with other users.
- If you want to share something with another Twitter account, write a "@" in front of the name of the user (see picture).
