How does Snapchat work? Clearly explained
Many young people like to use the Snapchat app. Here, pictures are often sent instead of messages. In this practical tip, we explain how Snapchat works and what you should consider when using it.
This is how Snapchat works
Snapchat is a photo, video and text messenger for iOS and Android.
- The clue about Snapchat is that you mainly talk about pictures. It's about sharing funny moments with your friends. Another advantage: the images can be deleted after a short time if desired. That's why we like to use the app for sexting.
- Start Snapchat, you can take a picture right away. If you press and hold the record button below, a video of up to 60 seconds in length will be recorded.
- If you have taken a photo, you can add a text or drawing to it and choose the desired duration of the display.
- In the next step you can send the picture to a friend. If he is not yet on your friends list, you can search for him in the search field at the top.
- If you send the picture, all selected recipients will be notified. Your message will appear on the recipient's home screen. If you hold your finger on the message, the picture or video will appear for the time you selected.
- If you swipe right over a received image on the start screen, you can also start a chat with the person. Swipe left twice, you can follow celebrities or friends there.
Snapchat: tips for beginners
Snapchat has evolved steadily since its first release. With every update, new functions and improvements are added. So that even Snapchat beginners never have an overview, we have a few tips to get you started:
- Regardless of whether you have received a private chat or are viewing a story - you will often get snaps that show the time in large. You can also add such a time stamp to your own images using a filter. If that's not enough, you can select different filters by tapping the display for a few seconds in the app's selfie mode.
- The "Snap Card" is a relatively new function. If you are in photo mode and zoom out with your fingers, you will see a map. Your friends' positions are shown on this.
- Group chat is also a practical function. This allows you to "snap" with several people at the same time. We will show you how to create a group chat in another practical tip.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to save received images in Snapchat.
