How does Trackr work? Locating chip simply explained
Trackr searches for misplaced objects for you. This practical tip shows you how the locating chip works and finds your key or wallet for you.
No more searching: This is how Trackr works
Trackr is a tracking chip that helps you to find misplaced objects.
- If you attach a locating chip to your keychain or keep it in your wallet, the app will show you where the item is. Long searches are a thing of the past.
- The principle is simple: you download the Trackr app for iOS or Android onto your smartphone.
- Now you only need to connect your mobile phone to the Trackr tracking chip via Bluetooth and assign what you want to track.
- Trackr shows you the current location of the locating chip and thus the item you are looking for. By pinging the chip also gives an acoustic signal, which makes it easier to find.
- Since the range of Bluetooth is limited, Trackr Crowd uses GPS.
This is how crowd GPS works
Crowd GPS uses the Bluetooth of other Trackr users.
- If the object you are looking for is out of the range of your cell phone, the search via Bluetooth no longer works, and a connection to the tracking chip cannot be established.
- If another Trackr user is within range of your tracking chip, their app will catch the signal in the background without being noticed. Since each Trackr has a unique ID, the app can assign the chip to you.
- The other user's smartphone forwards the current GPS location to the Trackr servers. From there you will see the location with a map on your smartphone.
- The disadvantage of Trackr is immediately obvious: As long as you are close to the object you are looking for, finding it is not a problem. Over long distances, however, you have to rely on someone else using Trackr - and it happens to be near your tracking chip.
