If you want to digitally network your own four walls, the use of WLAN is suitable. This practical tip shows you how WiFi actually works.
WLAN: How does the technology work?
- The abbreviation WLAN stands for "Wireless Local Area Network", ie a wireless local area network. All you need for WiFi is a router. You usually get this from your Internet provider.
- The router receives the Internet signal via cable via your telephone or Internet connection. The router receives the data from the Internet and forwards it to all connected computers, smartphones and tablets.
- If the WLAN function has been activated on the router, the router is permanently sparking: depending on the technology used, the WLAN is radioing at a frequency between 2400 and 5725 MHz. Other WiFi-enabled devices such as smartphones and laptops recognize the WiFi network and can connect to the router by entering the WiFi password.
- Once the connection has been established, the connected device has access to the Internet. A router can supply several devices with WLAN at the same time. The clear advantage of WLAN: You are not tied to a cable and ideally have an Internet connection anywhere in your own four walls.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to make your WLAN faster.
