Pixels are a digital unit of size that you regularly come across. In this article, we reveal how big a pixel really is and how you can even influence its size.
That's the size of a pixel
Pixels are the smallest possible picture elements on monitors, which are strung together with their respective colors to produce pictures. The size of one pixel is not fixed across the board, but depends on your setting.
- For example, you can change the resolution of your screen to adjust the size of each pixel:
- If you switch from a resolution of 1920 x 1080 to 1080 x 720, the total number of pixels will decrease while the screen size remains the same, of course. The pixels grow accordingly.
- It is similar with the PPI information for photos. PPI (Pixels per Inch or Pixels per Inch) indicates how many pixels come to a fixed length.
- With a larger PPI number, each individual pixel is correspondingly smaller.
Excel also calculates pixels for the cell sizes. We explain how to convert these pixels to centimeters.
