In this guide, we show you step by step how to get into the BIOS. There you can make important system settings on your computer.
Get into the BIOS - so proceed
The BIOS (Basic Input / Output System) can only be called during the boot process before the operating system is started. To do this, you usually have to press a specific key, which differs depending on the manufacturer and the BIOS used. The following list contains common BIOS keys and tips for typical problems. More tricks to get into the BIOS can be found in the following picture gallery.
- HP laptops mostly use the [F10] key, sometimes [F2] or [F6].
- For Dell computers, press [F2] when you see the Dell logo.
- Some Sony laptops have an [ASSIST] key that you use to start the notebook to access the BIOS. For other devices, [F2] is usually the right key.
- Asus also uses the [F2] key. For tablets, press the [Volume Down] and [On] buttons simultaneously.
- Acer, Samsung and Fujitsu also use [F2] for the BIOS and [F12] for the boot manager.
- Lenovo provides a complete list of BIOS keys per device.
- Other typical keys are [Del], [Esc] and [Tab].
- Sometimes key combinations are required to start the BIOS, for example [Ctrl] + [Esc] or [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del].
- Some laptops have [FN] enabled by default. Here you must then press the [FN] key and the corresponding key for the BIOS together.
- Sometimes the [Pause] key helps to interrupt the PC start and thus extend your time window in which you can press the BIOS key
