How fast is my internet?
At the latest when a download seems too slow again, you ask yourself the question "How fast is my internet actually?". To find out, there are countless speed tests for the home DSL connection on the Internet. This practical tip shows how you can successfully measure your Internet speed.
How fast is my internet? - DSL speed tests promise an answer
There are countless speed tests on the Internet that want to measure the Internet speed. However, since most of these tests are very imprecise, you should choose the right provider. Nevertheless, the determined speed is only a guideline.
- You can get a good and reasonably reliable DSL speed test from the Federal Network Agency.
- To test how fast your internet is, first enter some data on the website of the Network Quality Initiative. This includes your zip code, your network provider and the promised speed.
- In order for the speed test to be as reliable as possible, you should be connected to the Internet via a cable connection (LAN) and not allow network activities to run in the background (e.g. downloads).
- You will then find out the measured download and upload speed. The difference between the actual and target value is illustrated graphically (see screenshot). You will also see further details.
Measure the internet speed exactly - you have to get it!
However, if you do not want to rely on the approximate values of such online speed tests, you have other options for measuring the speed of your Internet connection:
- The Internet speed can be determined very precisely with many routers. Here we show how it works.
- Alternatively, you can also run your own DSL benchmark with downloads.
