WiFi only - what does that mean?
Many Android tablets come with the addition WiFi Only. However, the meaning is usually not explained, which can lead to a serious surprise for you as a buyer.
WiFi Only: Device does not support Internet without WiFi
- If you find the words "WiFi Only" in the name or in the manufacturer's description of mobile devices such as tablet PCs, this considerably restricts the Internet reception of the product.
- Because WiFi Only means that you can only access the Internet via WiFi. The 2G, 3G or 4G connections that are familiar from smartphones are no longer required. A well-known example of this is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 WiFi.
- So only buy such devices if you mainly want to use them at home. On the way, you have to do without all online features such as checking emails or chatting with friends.
If you have a smartphone with Internet access, you can use it as a router. We explain how this works with an Android phone here.
