At least officially you cannot play DVDs and CDs on the Wii. However, the console can be tricked by a detour. However, you lose the warranty and act at your own risk. This practical tip shows you how to play DVDs with your Wii.
Preparation: How to play DVDs on the Wii
Since the feature is not designed for your Wii console by default, you must first install software on your Wii. You do this at your own risk. In most cases, there are no errors because the software is mature. However, in some cases crashes or unexpected error messages can occur.
- To play DVDs on the Wii, you first need the so-called homebrew channel. This software contains both the "DVDX Installer" and the "Mplayer". You can download the software for free. We show you how to download and install the program in a separate step-by-step guide.
- If you have a Wii console with Modchip, you should first install the "Mii" patch. If this is not the case, immediately start installing the "DVDX Installer".
Play DVDs on the Wii - Here's how
If everything is installed correctly, the "Mplayer" opens. This shows that you have completed the process correctly. You can now continue playing the DVD.
- Insert the DVD into the console drive.
- Select this in the "Mplayer".
- Then press "Play DVD" to start it.
Wii: Control DVD with remote control
You control the DVD with your Wii Remote. You have to consider the following:
- Use the arrow keys to fast forward or rewind the DVD.
- Use the up and down buttons to rewind the DVD at a faster pace.
- With the plus button you move one chapter forward, with the minus button one chapter back.
- Press "A" if you want to pause and pause the DVD.
- You can finally end the DVD with the "Home" button.
