Wii no longer recognizes controllers - what to do?
If your Wii no longer recognizes the controllers, there can be several reasons. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Wii controller is no longer recognized
- First, check the batteries. If these are only weakly charged, you should change them.
- Turn off your Wii completely and pull out the power plug. Wait ten seconds and then turn the console back on.
- If the controller does not want to connect, first try to register another controller correctly.
- If the instructions in the following paragraphs also do not work, connect the controller to another console. If it doesn't work here, the controller may be defective.
Connect the Wii controller correctly to the console
- Turn off the Wii completely and remove the batteries from the controller.
- Reinsert the batteries, but leave the cover open.
- Turn on the Wii and briefly press the red sync button.
- Then briefly press the red sync button in the battery compartment of the controller.
- After a short wait, the controller and console should connect correctly.
Reset the Wii console if the controllers don't connect
Initializing the Wii will delete all settings and storage data. You should only perform this step if the controller works on another console.
- Start the Wii and select the "Wii system settings" in the main menu.
- Choose "Initialize Wii Console" here and enter the age restriction code if necessary.
- If you confirm the process, all settings are deleted. After a short time, the Wii is ready for use again.
