Wii: remote control does not work - what to do?
If the Wii's remote control doesn't work, there can be several reasons. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Wii remote stops working - that helps
- Batteries: First check the batteries in the remote control. If these are empty or only very weak, no connection can be established. Change them if necessary.
- Reset: If there is a small error between the console and the controller, simply disconnect the Wii from the power. Switch off the device, pull the power plug and restart the console after about 10 seconds.
- Controller: Alternatively, try to connect another controller first. Once this is done, connect all the others.
- Change: If the controller still cannot be connected, try another console. If it doesn't work here, there is a high probability that the remote control is defective.
Connect the remote control to the Wii
- Turn the Wii off again and remove the batteries from the controller.
- Then reinsert the batteries into the controller, but leave the cover open.
- Turn on the Wii and briefly press the red sync button behind the cover.
- Then press the sync button in the battery compartment of the controller.
- Wait a short moment, the console and controller should connect correctly.
Remote control is not recognized: Reset Wii
If the above steps did not help, but the controller works on a different console, the problem can be solved by initialization. Here, however, all settings and storage data are deleted.
- Turn on the Wii and select the "Wii system settings" from the main menu.
- Launch the Initialize Wii Console option and enter the age restriction code if asked.
- If you agree, the Wii will restart after a few minutes. Then the connection should work again.
