Use Wii U Pro Controller on a Windows PC - how it works
With a few tricks, you can also use the Wii U Pro Controller on a Windows PC for gaming. You can read how this works in this practical tip.
You need this so that you can also use the controller on a PC
- The Wii U Pro controller.
- A Bluetooth dongle or a PC with integrated Bluetooth.
- The tools "Toshiba Bluetooth Stack", "Pro Controller v0.1b" and "WiiUProControllerWin". You can download these here.
Note down the hardware ID of the Bluetooth adapter
To be able to configure everything correctly later, you need the hardware ID of the Bluetooth adapter.
- Connect the adapter or dongle to the PC.
- Open the Control Panel and click on "Device Manager" under "Hardware and Sound".
- Search for the Bluetooth adapter here and open the "Properties" with a right click. Then click on "Details".
- Copy the bottom line into a text document and then remove the adapter. Uninstall any remaining drivers or software from the Bluetooth device.
Install Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
- Install the tool that is suitable for your version of Windows (32 or 64 bit).
- Connect the Bluetooth device when prompted.
- As soon as the installation is successfully completed, copy the "TosBtChk.dll" from the downloaded folder into the installation directory and replace the file with the same name. Then restart your PC.
If the Bluetooth device is not recognized after connecting, first change to the installation directory "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Toshiba \ Bluetooth Toshiba Stack \ Drivers \ tosrfusb" or your corresponding installation folder.
- For example, copy the "tosrfusb.inf" file to your desktop and then open the copy.
- Here you will find two large lists with entries that look something like this: "% TosrfUsb.DeviceDesc200% = TosrfUsb_Device, USB \ VID_03F0 & PID_231D". Add the following entry at the bottom of both lists: "% TosrfUsb.DeviceDesc201% = TosrfUsb_Device, [Hardware ID from point 1]".
- Replace the variable [Hardware ID from point 1] with the hardware ID of your Bluetooth device that you found out in the first step. Don't forget to add this entry to both lists.
- At the bottom of the document there is a third list which has the following entries: "TosrfUsb.DeviceDesc200 = [Bluetooth USB Controller]". Complete this list with the following entry: "TosrfUsb.DeviceDesc201 = [Bluetooth USB Controller]".
- Save the file and move it back to the installation directory. Replace the existing file. Now the device should be recognized during the installation and you can continue as described in step 3.
Sync Wii U Pro controller
After a successful restart there is now a blue and white icon for the Bluetooth Manager in the taskbar, which you now need.
- If the icon is blue-red, right-click on it and select "Activate Bluetooth function".
- Then double-click on the symbol.
- Click on the "New connection" button here.
- Select the "Express mode (recommended)" and already hold your controller in your hand.
- After you click on "Next", a Bluetooth search is started. Here you must quickly press the "Sync" button on the controller (this is the red button on the bottom).
- If you have done everything correctly, the device "Nintendo RVÖ-CNT-01-UC" is displayed in the next window. Wait for the lights on the controller to stop blinking, then click "Next".
- Press a few buttons on the controller (but not the "Sync" button!) So that it does not go into sleep mode and the lights continue to flash. If this should happen, the "Service Error" appears. Confirm this with "OK" and repeat step 5. If the synchronization is successful, the controller is displayed in the Bluetooth settings.
- Important: A green and a yellow line must be displayed (see picture). If these are not available or have disappeared after a few seconds, click on the symbol, then on "Connect" and "OK". Here you have to press some keys again, as in the previous step.
- Please note: You have to reconnect the controller each time the PC is restarted.
Get the Wii U Pro controller ready to play
Now you can get the controller ready to play with the following steps:
- If you want to use the controller for an emulator, open the "WiiUProControllerWin" folder and execute the exe file of the same name while the emulator is running in the background.
- Then you have to select and configure the controller in the emulator.
- For PC games: Copy the "ProController v0.1b" file into the directory of the game you want to play with the controller.
- After you have started the game, a message (see picture) should appear, which will tell you that the controller is ready.
- As soon as the indicator light of player 1 on the controller lights up, you can play the game with the controller.
