Win 8: Always show the ribbon open in Windows Explorer
In Windows 8, Windows Explorer is also equipped with the ribbon, which is initially shown by default, but can be hidden and shown at any time using the arrow symbol or [Ctrl] + [F1]. If you open a new window, Windows will remember the last setting and apply it again. If you always want to start with the same status, you can predefine it in the registry.
Configure ribbon behavior via registry
- To do this, type "regedit" in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter. You can also use the "Execute" dialog with the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Confirm the user account control with »Yes«. Then navigate to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows". Create with »Edit | New | Key «the subkey» Explorer «, if it does not already exist.
- Then open it and create it with the command »Edit | New | DWORD value «the new entry» ExplorerRibbonStartsMinimized «. Double click to edit. With the value »1« the ribbon is always hidden, with »2« it is always activated.
- The values "3" and "4" only ensure the defined state the first time they are called, and other windows in the active session are based on the last setting. Simply enter the desired value and confirm with »OK«. Then close the registry and restart the system.
