Windows 10: Reduce the distance between desktop icons
In Windows 10, the distance between the desktop icons has become much larger. It can be reduced in size, but the setting is difficult to find. We show you how to set the distance back to the usual size of Windows 7 and 8.
Reduce the distance between desktop icons in Windows 10
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "regedit" here and confirm with "OK". Then the registry editor starts.
- Navigate to the following path on the left: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ WindowMetrics
- Open the "IconVerticalSpacing" file on the right, you will see the value "-1710".
- Change this to "-1125" or another desired value. This value was used in Windows 7 and 8. The values range from -480 to -2730.
- The horizontal value can also be changed. To do this, open the "IconSpacing" file and change the value to -1125 or the desired value.
- Close the window with "OK" and restart your computer. The changes will be applied the next time you log on.
