With Windows 10, you already have a longer battery life on many devices. Extending them even further is not rocket science - if you take our tips to heart.
Even more battery power in Windows 10
Many devices benefit from Windows 10 and have a significantly longer battery life than before under Windows 8. However, with some devices the battery life is also reduced. You can definitely improve the battery power with these tips:
- As in previous versions of Windows, Windows 10 also offers a power saving mode. To do this, select the battery symbol in the task bar and click the "Power saving" button.
- If you click on "Settings for mains operation and energy saving", you can also make more precise configurations for the energy saving mode and adapt it to your needs.
- Screen lighting makes up a large proportion of energy consumption. So if you can, you should keep the screen brightness as low as possible. On most laptops, you can do this with a keyboard shortcut. Otherwise you can also adjust the brightness in the system settings under "Screen" and "Brightness level".
- Disconnect unused USB devices to extend your battery life. Many USB devices consume energy even when they are only connected and not actively used. Avoid using a USB mouse on the go and use the touchpad instead.
- Unless you need to, you should turn off your Windows 10 device's wireless connections for longer battery life. It is best to activate airplane mode to deactivate all wireless connections. To do this, click on the Internet symbol in the task bar and select the "Activate airplane mode" button.
- Use only programs that you really need. Open programs require resources and gnaw on your battery life. Apps and games in particular can often lead to a shorter battery life.
