Windows 10: delete old profile pictures - how it works
Windows 10 shows old profile pictures in addition to your current picture in the account settings. You can delete these photos if you do not want to use the feature. In this practical tip, we show you how to do this.
Delete old profile pictures in Windows 10
Windows 10 saves your old profile pictures so that you can quickly switch between the individual photos. If you do not want to use this function and only save the current image in the Windows settings, you have to intervene deeply in the system:
- First open Windows Explorer with the key combination [Win] + [E].
- Enter the command "% appdata% \ Microsoft \ Windows \ AccountPictures" in the upper address bar and confirm with [Enter]. Alternatively, navigate to the path "C: \ Users \ USERNAME \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Profile pictures".
- In the "Profile pictures" folder you will find a preview of your old account photos. Delete the images here that should no longer be displayed in the settings.
- Then open the settings with the key combination [Windows] + [I] and go to the section "Accounts"> "Your account". The old preview images have now disappeared.
