Windows 10: App store does not open
If the app store does not open in Windows 10, it is important to find the cause of the problem. We show you what it can be - and what you can do.
App Store does not open: server failure
Windows 10 is new - and new operating systems usually have problems at the beginning. In Windows 10, the store server failed several times.
- In the event of a server failure, you only have patience. In this case, you cannot repair anything yourself.
Windows App Store does not open - you can do that
If the store problem is not with the Microsoft server, you have various options to get the store up and running again. Just try out the different steps one by one.
- The first step in case of problems should be to look for updates. Problems with the update are often fixed. Under Settings, navigate to Update and Security - Windows Update. Click the "Check for updates" button to keep an eye out for updates. If an update is found, run it.
- If the app store still does not open after an update, reset the store. As if Microsoft had suspected that the store would cause problems, a small utility program for resetting the store was conveniently included. The tool to reset the store is called "wsreset". Type "wsreset" in the search box on the taskbar. If the program appears in the hits, click on it. A small window with a program line may open. Just wait for the window to close on its own. The app store is now reset.
Manual clearing of the cache files
If the two previous measures have not yet brought the desired results, deleting the cache files remains the last option. We'll show you how to do it.
- Start the execution command with the key combination [Windows] and [R] and enter "% HOMEPATH% \ AppData \ Local \ Packages". The file manager should now open with a certain directory.
- Look for a subdirectory in the list that starts with "Microsoft.WindowsStore_". Open this directory.
- Navigate to the "Local Cache" folder in this directory and open it too. You should now find a folder whose name begins with "perUserCache_". You delete this folder completely.
- At the latest now, the App Store should be able to start normally again.
