Windows 10: change resolution - how it works
If you have reinstalled Windows 10 or connect another monitor, you usually have to change the resolution. We'll show you how to make the image as sharp as possible in Windows 10.
Change resolution in Windows 10
- Click on the start menu at the bottom left and select "Settings".
- Under the "System" category you will find the "Screen" area.
- Click the "Advanced Display Settings" option below and select the resolution you want.
- Finally, click the "Apply" button to set the selected resolution.
- Your screen will go black for a few seconds, but should then be sharper. Then confirm with "Keep changes".
- Note: If you have selected a resolution that is too high, the screen remains black. In this case, simply press the [Esc] key on the top left of the keyboard or wait 10 seconds. Windows will then automatically reset the resolution.
Problem: The resolution cannot be changed
- If you have installed the upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10, the graphics card driver is usually still out of date. This can lead to problems when changing the resolution.
- A simple update of the driver can help. Windows 10 drivers are now available for almost all graphics cards. In further practical tips, we will explain the driver update for Nvidia graphics cards and ATI graphics cards.
In the next article we will show you how to start Windows 10 without login.
