If there are problems with Windows 10 or you want to make deeper settings, the BIOS (or UEFI) can be started in different ways. We'll show you how it's done here.
Windows 10: How to open the BIOS (UEFI) via the settings
Newer computers with Windows 10 no longer have a BIOS, but rather the so-called UEFI. If you cannot find the settings from these instructions on your PC, follow the instructions in the third paragraph.
Step 1: open Settings
Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left and select "Settings" from the Start menu using the gear icon.
Step 2: select recovery
In the category "Update & Security" you will now find the item "Recovery".
Step 3: start UEFI
If you click on the "Restart now" button under "Advanced Start", Windows is closed and the UEFI started.
Windows 10: Start UEFI quickly and easily
You can start UEFI just as quickly as the BIOS:
- If you have just started up your computer, go to the login screen.
- Now do not enter your password, but click on the power button at the bottom right.
- Hold down the Shift key and click the "Restart" option. Now the UEFI opens.
Windows 10: Start BIOS with a key combination
If you use Windows 10 on a somewhat older PC, the BIOS can only be called up in the classic way.
- When you start up your computer, you only have a few seconds to start the BIOS. It will only open if you press the right button at the right time.
- Depending on the manufacturer, a different button is required. After starting, simply press F1, F2, F8, F10, Del, or Esc again and again. If Windows starts instead of the BIOS, shut down your PC and try again.
