Windows 10 boots slowly - you can do that
In this article, we'll show you what you can do if Windows 10 boots slowly. You can significantly speed up the Windows boot process in just a few simple steps.
Windows 10 boots slowly: Accelerate startup with autoruns
First of all you should try to speed up the start with the autoruns program. With autoruns you can remove unwanted programs that appear when Windows starts, from the autostart. You can find autoruns here as a download.
- Download autoruns here and install the program.
- Now start the program to see which programs are running when Windows starts.
- Remove the checkmarks for all programs that have nothing to do with the Windows system. Programs like Skype, iTunes, Steam, or printers & scanners can be switched off without any problems. These applications can also be used without any problems after you have opened them manually.
Windows 10 boots slowly: set bios correctly
The Basic Input Output System, which starts before Windows, can save you a lot of time with the right settings. Here you set things like the boot order or boot options. Follow our instructions to set the bios optimally.
- Restart your PC and open the BIOS. You can do this by pressing [Del], [F2], [F8], [F10] or [F12] when you start your computer. Depending on the model and manufacturer, different buttons are defined here.
- There is another option for newer PCs with Windows 8 or Windows 10: Here you can find the "Restart" button in the Windows logon screen at the bottom right. Now click on it while holding the Shift key. The computer then boots into BIOS mode (UEFI).
- As soon as you are in the BIOS or UEFI, look for the "Boot Device Priority" setting under the "Boot" tab.
- Your system hard disk should come first here. If not, change the order. Your computer will immediately search for a boot partition on your hard drive and will no longer include other devices. This will make Windows boot faster.
- Now go to the homepage of the Bios or UEFi. If the "Fast Boot" option is available, activate it.
- Close the BIOS and don't forget to save the settings. After that, your bios is optimally configured for a quick boot process.
Windows 10 boots slowly: upgrade SSD
Probably the best way to speed up your boot process is to install an SSD. SSDs basically work like normal hard drives, but have no mechanical components. This shortens the access times enormously and Windows can boot faster. Programs also open faster because the computer can now find everything in less time. Find out in another article how to install the SSD and what to consider.
