Windows 10: Show build number of an ISO file - Here's how
If you have downloaded a Windows 10 ISO, you can determine the build number before the installation. You can find the current Windows 10 ISO together with the associated build number in our download area. The information is in the table on the right under "Version". If the ISO file has already been downloaded, proceed as follows:
- Right-click the ISO file in Windows 10 and select the Share option. The content of the ISO file then appears in a separate drive in Windows Explorer. Under older versions of Windows you can use free image tools such as "Daemon Tools Lite".
- Then press the key combination [Windows] + [E] and navigate to the "My PC" folder. Make a note of the drive letter of the ISO file you just included.
- Then press the key combination [Windows] + [X] and select "Command Prompt (Administrator)". If the user account control appears, confirm the process with "OK".
- In the command prompt, enter the command "dism / Get-WimInfo /WimFile:X:\sources\install.wim / index: 1". Replace the middle part "X:" with the drive letter of your integrated image.
- Then a list appears with all information about the Windows system of the ISO file. You will find the build number next to the "Version" entry.
