Windows 10 Creators Update without Control Panel: How to restore the shortcut
After the latest Creators Update in Windows 10, the link to the Control Panel has disappeared. We show you how to restore it in this practical tip.
How to restore Control Panel on Windows 10
- Press the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter "regedit.exe". Confirm with [Enter].
- In the next window, navigate to the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ DesktopBackground \ Shell" key.
- In the left pane, right click on "Shell" and choose "New"> "Key".
- Give the key any name, such as "Control Panel".
- On the right side of the window, double-click on "(Standard)" and enter "@ shell32.dll, -4161" as the value.
Further steps: restore link of the Win 10 control panel
- Now right click on an empty area and select "New"> "String". Call it "icon".
- Double-click the string you just created and enter "control.exe" as the value.
- Now create another string as described above and name it "Position". Enter "Bottom" as the value.
- Now right-click on the key that we called "Control Panel" in this example and choose "New"> "Key".
- Name this key "command" and then double-click on "(Standard)". Enter "control.exe" as the value here.
- Now you can reach the control panel on your PC as usual.
