Windows 10: Show desktop - how it works
In Windows 10 there are several ways to display the desktop. We'll show you what options you have and how you can even put a desktop icon on the taskbar.
Windows 10: Show desktop with board tools
- On the far right of the taskbar next to the clock is a small, almost invisible button. If you click on it, all windows are minimized and the desktop is displayed.
- Alternatively, you can use the key combination [Win] + [D].
- Click the area of the taskbar again or use the key combination again, the minimized windows open again.
- However, the small button is particularly cumbersome for tablet users. In the next paragraph, we'll show you how to put a desktop shortcut on the taskbar.
Windows 10: Insert the desktop icon in the taskbar
- Right-click an empty space on the desktop.
- Under "New", select the "Link" option.
- Enter "explorer shell ::: {3080F90D-D7AD-11D9-BD98-0000947B0257}" and click on "Next".
- In the next step, enter any name for the link. For example "show desktop". Confirm with "Finish".
- Now right-click on the shortcut you have created and select the "Properties" entry.
- Under "Link" click on "other symbol". The appropriate icon can be found in the path "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ imageres.dll". Confirm the change with "OK".
- To place the icon on the taskbar, right-click on it and select "Pin to taskbar".
- You can now move the shortcut on the desktop to the trash.
