If you want to find out your own IP address in Windows 10, this works in several ways. We present three options.
Windows 10: Find out your own IP address at a command prompt
You can use the command prompt to determine your IP address in the network. It is the IP address that you can use to interact with other computers and devices on the same network.
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Run" window opens.
- Enter the command "cmd" here and confirm with "OK". Then the command prompt starts.
- Type in the "ipconfig" command and confirm your entry with [Enter].
- If you look for the line "IPv4 address" in the middle, you will find your IP address on the right (see picture).
- The IP address in the home network usually has the form "192.168.xx".
Windows 10: Find out public IP
If your computer is connected to the Internet, you will be assigned a different IP address. On the basis of this IP address, websites will recognize and save you if necessary. This IP cannot be read under Windows 10, but the faster on the Internet:
- Your public IP address is read out and displayed directly on websites such as own-IP.de, IP-Chicken or IPAdresseAnschriften.de.
- Depending on the website, you will also be shown information about your approximate location and your Internet provider.
Find your own IP address in Windows 10
As an alternative to the instructions above, you can also find your IP address in the settings.
- To do this, right-click on the start menu and select the "Network connections".
- There are several options below. Decide here for "Show network properties".
- You will find the respective IP address for the various connections such as "Ethernet" and "WLAN".
