Windows 10: disable feedback function - how it works
From time to time, a feedback window opens in Windows 10, in which Microsoft asks you for your opinion. Fortunately, this "feature" can also be deactivated, because over time the pop-up is only annoying.
Disable the feedback function for problems with Windows 10
To deactivate the feedback function, it is sufficient to flip the right switch in the Windows 10 settings:
- To do this, click on the Windows logo at the bottom left and go to "Settings".
- Here you select the "Data protection" option.
- In the left bar, scroll down to the point "Diagnosis and Feedback".
- Set the drop-down menu to "Never" below under "Feedback Frequency".
- Under "Diagnostic and usage data" set "Simple".
Feedback pop-ups will no longer appear on your screen - however, data will still be sent to Microsoft. You can prevent this behavior in the menu only with the Enterprise version. The sending of usage data can be switched off completely via the registry.
Prevent sending of diagnostic and usage data in Windows 10 via registry
It is not absolutely necessary that you still edit the registry values. However, if you take data protection more seriously, you can put a stop to Microsoft.
- Open the registry on your Windows 10 device.
- Then navigate to the directory "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ DataCollection".
- Once here, create a new "DWORD value" with a right click in the right window.
- You call this DWORD value "AllowTelemetry" (without quotation marks).
- Then select the DWORD value by right-clicking and click on "Change" in the context menu.
- If the value is not yet "0" here, change it to "0".
- Then click on the "Windows" logo at the bottom left and select the "Explorer" option with a right click.
- In the context menu, switch to the "Manage" item.
- Now a new window opens. Here you go to "Services and Applications" and below "Services".
- Find the Diagnostic Tracking Service and dmwappushsvc services from the list on the right.
- Open the services with a right click and deactivate them via "Properties"> "Start type"> "Disabled".
