Windows 10: Open and change group policies - how it works
As an administrator, you can use Windows 10 Group Policy to make various settings that apply to all users. We'll show you how to open and change Group Policy.
Windows 10: Open Group Policy
The local group policy editor is only available in Windows 10 in the Pro and Enterprise versions. You cannot edit group policies with the standard version "Home".
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "gpedit.msc" here and confirm with "OK". Now the editor for local group policies starts.
- Here you can view and edit all guidelines. Read on in the next paragraph.
Change Group Policy in Windows 10
If you have opened the editor for local group policies, you will find an outline on the left. Here all group policies are divided into different categories. In this example, we're changing the lock screen policy:
- Select the "Administrative Templates" folder under "User Account Configuration" on the left.
- In the "Control Panel" subfolder you will now find the "Customization" item.
- All related policies, such as "Don't show lock screen" appear on the right.
- Open the group policy with a double click. You can then edit them.
- In this case, select the "Enabled" option and confirm with "OK".
- After a restart, the change to the group policy takes effect.
