Download Windows 10 or not - pros and cons
If you are suggested to upgrade to Windows 10, you can download the operating system for free - but you don't have to. We use pros and cons to show you whether you should download Windows 10 or not.
Windows 10: Pros and Cons of the new Microsoft OS
- Windows 10 brings numerous small innovations with it. Among other things, several desktops can be opened, the start menu has returned, Internet Explorer is replaced by the new Microsoft Edge browser and the Cortana voice assistant supports you in everyday tasks.
- With the new features and improvements, Windows 10 is a better operating system than Windows 8 or 8.1. However, nothing has changed in the basic structure. If you have previously used Windows 7 or 8, you will have no difficulty using Windows 10.
- However, if you have already got used to Windows 7 or 8, a change is not absolutely necessary. If you do not like the new functions or if you simply do not need them, an upgrade is not mandatory. Updates will also keep Windows 7 and 8 safe for a few more years.
Windows 10: Economical investment in the future
- Windows 10 will be available for free download for one year from July 29, 2015. This only applies to owners of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. If you do not install the update within one year, it will no longer be offered to you afterwards.
- You have until mid-2016 to make a final decision for or against the free update to Windows 10. If you want to use Windows 10 at a later time, you have to buy a license for around 100 euros.
Windows 10: The download still has time
- It is generally recommended to download Windows 10. Microsoft will focus on Windows 10 over the next few years, making it the safest Windows. You also benefit from all new functions.
- If you are still undecided, it can even be an advantage. If you update in the first days and weeks after the release of Windows 10, you may be affected by download problems and potential bugs.
- Even if Windows 10 is already running stably, not all programs are already optimized for Windows 10. Some anti-virus programs and important drivers are not yet compatible with Windows 10.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to restore Windows 10 without a CD.
