On Windows 10, restoring older versions of files is easier than ever. We'll show you step by step how to get the older versions of your files.
Restore older file versions on Windows 10
With Windows 10, Microsoft has implemented a clever function that automatically helps you to restore older file versions. This is particularly useful if, for example, you have accidentally overwritten a file.
- Windows 10 automatically creates backups of your files that allow you to jump back to older versions of files.
- Simply right-click on the file or folder you want and select "Restore previous versions" from the context menu.
- In the tab that is now open, you can see all the restore points that were created automatically.
- If you don't see any restore points, your backup may be disabled. We will show you in a separate article how you can activate the backup in this case.
- Now select one of the restore points and click on "Open". So you can first check if it is actually the file version you want to return to.
- If it is the correct version, all you have to do is select "Restore" to get the older file version back.
- However, please note that this process cannot be undone and the current file version is replaced by the older one and deleted. So be careful with this feature when it comes to important files.
