Windows 10: Start older programs and games
Windows 10 also has a feature that allows you to start older programs and games that are actually no longer compatible with Windows 10. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
Start older software in Windows 10 in compatibility mode
In order to get older games or tools running again under Windows 10, a so-called compatibility mode is integrated into the system.
- Look for the .exe file of the program that you want to start in compatibility mode.
- Right-click on this to open the context menu.
- Here you select the "Properties" option.
- Then a new window opens. Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
- Now check the "Run program in compatibility mode" function.
- By opening the dropdown menu below you can select a Windows version back to Windows Vista.
- Click on "OK" to apply the settings. Then you can start the program as usual.
In another practical tip, we will show you how to run programs under Windows 10 as an administrator.
