Windows 10 Mail: Set up a T-Online account - how it works
With the Mail app in Windows 10, you can easily manage your T-Online account. The only requirement: you have to set up your account in the e-mail program.
Step 1: prepare T-Online account for Windows 10 Mail
Unlike most mail providers, you cannot connect your T-Online account directly to third-party programs such as the Mail app in Windows 10. Instead, you must first set a separate password.
- To do this, log into your email account on the T-Online website.
- In the mail center, click on "Settings" under "Menu".
- Then set an email password under "Passwords". This can either match your normal password or be different.
- Save your changes and close the browser.
Step 2: set up Windows 10 Mail with T-Online
If you have set a separate email password at T-Online, you can go to Windows 10 to set it up.
- To do this, click on the Windows icon at the bottom left and start the "Mail" application.
- If you are already logged in with an Outlook account, the corresponding T-Online account is displayed here. If you click on it, the setup is already complete. If this is not the case, click on "Add account".
- In the selection menu you decide on the entry "Other account".
- Now enter your email address and your previously defined password and then click on "Register".
- In the new window, add your name under which your messages should be sent. Then complete the process with "Register" and "Done".
Step 3: check Windows 10 Mail settings
If you have followed all the steps, Windows 10 will automatically set up your T-Online account. For security, you should check the data in the settings and adjust them if necessary. To do this, click on "Change mailbox synchronization settings" and "Advanced mailbox settings" in the "Account settings". The data should read as follows:
- Incoming server: secureimap.t-online.de:993:1
- Outgoing mail server: securesmtp.t-online.de:587:1
- Outgoing server requires authentication: Checked.
- Use the same username and password to send email: Checked.
- SSL required for incoming e-mails: Checked.
- SSL required for outgoing emails: Checked.
On the next page, we will show you how to create a signature in Windows 10 Mail so that you can get started right after the setup.
