Windows 10 Mobile is to be the successor to Windows Phone 8.1. We have summarized all the highlights and features of the new mobile phone operating system for you.
Windows 10 Mobile: Universal apps
A highlight of the new Windows 10 Mobile is the use of "Universal Apps":
- The kernel of the Windows 10 operating system will be the same on PC's, tablets and smartphones.
- This should allow apps that have been programmed for the PC to run on the smartphone and vice versa.
- These universal apps also ensure a uniform interface and better collaboration between the various devices.
Windows 10 Mobile: With Continuum to PC size
Another feature of Windows 10 Mobile will be the Continuum technology:
- With this function, you can use your Windows 10 Mobile smartphone as an ordinary desktop PC.
- If you use your cell phone with an external screen, the desktop will be displayed on it in full resolution.
- You can also connect external input devices such as a mouse and keyboard to your smartphone so that you can use the phone as a desktop PC.
- Unfortunately, the feature will not be available on all Windows 10 Mobile devices, but will only be reserved for high-end devices.
Windows 10 Mobile: Free update of Windows Phone 8.1
In order to achieve a quick spread of Windows 10 Mobile, some cell phone models receive a free update from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile:
- All Lumia devices with Windows Phone 7 do not receive an update to Windows 10 Mobile.
- Most Lumia smartphones running Windows 8.1 will receive an update to Windows 10 Mobile.
- New Lumia devices will be equipped with the new operating system upon delivery.
Windows 10 Mobile: Enterprise for business
There will also be an enterprise version of Windows 10 Mobile especially for companies:
- This version is intended to make it easier to manage employee smartphones.
- In addition, it offers special update and security functions.
