Windows 10: Deactivate new start menu
Under Windows 10, the old start menu comes back in a new form. However, if you don't want to use it, there are alternatives. Unfortunately, the start menu cannot currently be completely deactivated.
Update: Switch off the start menu under Windows 10
- Unfortunately, the start menu could only be switched off in the preview of Windows 10. The instructions below unfortunately no longer work.
- However, you can resort to alternatives. With the Classic Shell software you get back the start menu of Windows 7 or Vista.
- If you activate tablet mode in Windows 10, the start menu will be displayed in a customized way. You may like this type of menu.
Deactivate new start menu in Windows 10
Use the Windows icon at the bottom left to start the Start menu in Windows 10. If you would like the start screen familiar from Windows 8 instead, you have to deactivate the new start menu:
- Right-click on the taskbar and select the "Properties".
- A small window opens. Go to the "Start Menu" category above.
- At the top, deactivate the option "Use start menu instead of start screen".
- If you close the window with the "OK" button, the start menu is deactivated.
