Windows 10: Uninstall OneDrive - Here's how
If you are not using the "OneDrive" cloud storage under Windows 10, you can uninstall the preinstalled software or simply hide it. We show you the exact procedure in these instructions.
Step 1: Remove OneDrive icon in Explorer
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "regedit" here and confirm with "OK". Then the registry editor starts.
- Navigate to the following path on the left: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}
- Now double click on the value "System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree" on the right side.
- Change the value from 1 to 0 and close the window with the "OK" button.
- OneDrive is therefore hidden in Explorer. In the next step you can also uninstall the software.
Step 2: uninstall OneDrive from Windows 10
Note: The following instructions can unfortunately only be carried out with the Pro version of Windows 10. If you are using the home version, you can only deactivate the start of OneDrive.
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "gpedit.msc" here and confirm with "OK". Then the editor for local group policies starts.
- Now navigate to the following path on the left: Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, OneDrive.
- On the right you will find the setting "Prevent using OneDrive for data storage". Open it with a double click.
- Select the "Activated" option here and close the window again with the "OK" button.
- Close the window and simultaneously press the [Windows] and [X] keys.
- A context menu appears at the bottom left of the picture. Select the "Command Prompt (Administrator)" option here.
- Enter the command "taskkill / f / in OneDrive.exe" and confirm it with the "Enter" key.
- Then enter the second command. Depending on the 32-bit or 64-bit system, you need the appropriate command.
- 64-bit:% SystemRoot% \ SysWOW64 \ OneDriveSetup.exe / uninstall
- 32-bit:% SystemRoot% \ System32 \ OneDriveSetup.exe / uninstall
- Confirm the second command with the [Enter] key and close the window. OneDrive has now been successfully uninstalled.
