Windows 10 suddenly black and white - that's why
When Windows 10 suddenly appears on the screen in black and white, the surprise is great at first. In most cases there is an accidentally activated system function. This practical tip explains what this is all about and how you can switch it off again.
Windows 10 - black and white screen through color filters
Windows 10 has a feature that allows you to use different color filters. If this is activated, the screen is then, for example, black and white and remains so even after a restart. If you want to switch off the color filter again, you can do this via the control panel:
- Open the control panel.
- Select "Ease of use".
- Go to the "Color Filters" section and set the "Apply Color Filters" switch to "Off". The change is then immediately adopted.
- If you have activated the key combination for the color filter, alternatively switch it on and off with the shortcut [Win] + [Ctrl] + [C].
Windows 10 - other causes of black and white screen
If the screen remains black and white despite the color filter being switched off, you can also follow these points:
- Make sure you have installed all Windows updates.
- Download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.
- Check the color settings on your monitor and in the settings of your graphics card.
- Check the monitor cable and replace it if necessary.
In our next practical tip, we will show you how you can change the design of Windows 10 and adapt it to your preferences.
