Windows 10: Pin programs to the start menu - how it works
In Windows 10, you can pin any number of programs to the Start menu and thus personalize it comprehensively. In this article, we show you exactly how to do this.
Pin programs to the Start menu in Windows 10
The Windows 10 Start menu is primarily intended for apps. But normal programs can also be added and pinned:
- To do this, enter the name of the desired program in the search field of the Windows taskbar.
- Then right-click on the matching search results.
- Add the program icon to the start menu via the entry "Pin to start" and via "Pin to taskbar" to the Windows taskbar.
- Tip: Alternatively, you can search for the desired program using the Start menu itself or Windows Explorer. You can use the context menu to add the shortcut or .EXE file to the start menu in any situation.
Windows 10: customize start menu with programs
Once you've added all of your programs to the Start menu, you can further customize the look. We have listed the most important features for you here:
- Change order: Double-click a program tile and drag it to the desired position. In this way you can sort the complete start menu according to your wishes.
- Resize: If you right-click on a program tile, you can adjust the size of your tile under "Resize". This is how important programs can be highlighted.
- Live tiles: If your added program is also a Windows 10 app, you may be able to set up a live tile. This gives you practical information such as weather forecasts or news from the respective app directly in the start menu. To do this, right-click on the tile and select "Activate Live Tile".
