If you do not want to take advantage of the quick start of Windows 10, you can deactivate the function at any time. We'll show you how it's done and when it really makes sense to deactivate it.
Instructions: Deactivate quick start in Windows 10
- First open the Control Panel in Windows 10.
- In the "System and Security" category you will find the "Energy options".
- Click the "Choose what to do when you press the power button" option on the left.
- Then click the "Some settings are currently unavailable" link above.
- Remove the checkmark at the option "Activate quick start (recommended)".
- With the button "Save changes" the quick start under Windows 10 is switched off.
Windows 10: when is it worth deactivating the quick start?
- Thanks to the quick start, Windows 10 starts up and shuts down much faster. When shutting down, the most important data is saved in the hiberfil.sys file and loaded within a few seconds when starting up.
- If you have two operating systems installed on your computer, deactivating the quick start can make sense. Especially in combination with older versions of Windows and Linux, there are some problems due to the quick start. In Windows 7, deactivation is even mandatory.
- Deactivation is also worthwhile to protect the SSD. SSD hard drives hardly benefit from the quick start and only lose valuable life time as a result.
- December 2016: Internet connection problems are currently common in Windows 10. A possible solution for this is to deactivate the quick start.
