Disable lock screen on Windows 10
For some versions of Windows 10, this guide no longer works. So if you have any problems, try the steps in the last paragraph.
- Simultaneously press the key combination [Windows] and [R], so that the "Run" window opens.
- Enter the command "gpedit.msc" and confirm with "OK". The group policy editor then starts.
- Then navigate to the category "Administrative Templates" as well as "Control Panel" and "Customization" under "Computer Configuration" on the left.
- If you double-click the "Do not show lock screen" option on the right with the mouse, another window opens.
- At the top left, select the "Activated" option and save the change using the "OK" button.
- If you restart your computer, the start screen is no longer displayed.
Windows 10: Turn off lock screen
- Open the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] and [R].
- Enter the "regedit" command and click "OK". Then the registry editor starts.
- Now switch to the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Policies / Microsoft / Windows" on the left.
- Select the "Windows" key, right-click on a free area on the right-hand side and select "Key" under "New".
- Name the new key "Personalization", right-click again in a free area and select the option "DWORD value (32-bit)".
- Enter the name "NoLockScreen" for the value, open the value with a double click and change it from "0" to "1".
- Finally, close both windows and restart Windows. The start screen has now disappeared.
Windows 10: Trouble with the lockscreen
- The above tricks are well known to Microsoft. Again and again, these paths are closed by registry changes via update. Therefore, the tips may not work for you.
- The only permanent solution is automatic logging into Windows. However, then you will lose the password protection for your user account.
- Tip: The lock screen is also deactivated with the free "LockScreen Disabler". However, this only works if you lock the computer using the [Windows] and [L] keys. However, the lock screen still appears when Windows starts. There is currently no other solution for this.
