Windows 10: Games starts - error: SecuROM / SafeDisc
If you want to start a game with SecuROM or SafeDisc protection under Windows 10, this currently does not work. We will show you why and how you can solve the problem.
Windows 10: Games with SecuROM and SafeDisc do not start
- SecuROM and SafeDisc are technologies of DRM protection. This copy protection penetrates deep into the Windows system to prevent hacks or pirated copies.
- With Windows 10, Microsoft decided against using SecuROM and SafeDisc. Since both technologies intervene deeply in the system, a security gap is closed. The disadvantage: the DRM-protected games can no longer be started.
- Some games from 2003 to 2008 are affected. However, many games have received a so-called "No-CD Patch", which allows the game to start without a CD.
- If there is no patch, the game cannot be started on Windows 10. It is still unclear whether Microsoft or the developers of the games will provide a solution in the near future. Hard-minded gamers must therefore return to Windows 7 or 8.
Although Windows 10 doesn't seem very friendly to gamers, there are some new, useful game features. In the next practical tip, we will show you how to record games under Windows 10 using on-board equipment.
