Windows 10: change standard apps - how it works
In Windows 10, you can set standard apps for each file type that should open the document automatically. This practical tip shows you how you can change your selection afterwards.
Change default apps in Windows 10
Whether for photos, videos or documents - in Windows 10 you can set an app as the default for every file format. This is then opened automatically as soon as you open a file of the saved type. You can change the selection at any time in the settings:
- To do this, start the Settings app with the key combination [Windows] + [I].
- In the "System" category, switch to the "Standard apps" tab.
- If you tap on the currently defined app under the individual file formats, you can select a new program from the list.
- If your desired file format is not listed, scroll down a little and click on "Select standard app by file type".
- Then select the desired format from the list and click on the desired program to register it as a standard app.
